Land for Life Project Coordination Officer
Tanzania People & Wildlife TPW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
protecting wildlife, investing in people, and restoring balance to Tanzania’s
vital ecosystems through effective conservation action, applied science, and
collective impact. Together with communities and additional conservation
actors, we focus on delivering win-win, sustainable solutions for people and
nature. TPW helps rural communities develop their skills and abilities to
protect natural resources in a manner that maximizes their benefits from these
landscapes while also preserving ecological integrity. Emphasizing the
critical importance of community-led initiatives, the organization provides
information, training, and service level support to its rural constituencies
to strengthen local institutions and community-driven actions for natural
resource management and wildlife conservation.

TPW operates from the Noloholo Environmental Center on the Maasai Steppe in
northern Tanzania. Sharing a boundary with Tarangire National Park, this
center acts as TPW’s regional headquarters as well as an educational center
where rural community members improve their understanding of the environment
and develop hands-on skills in natural resource management. From this center,
TPW operates programs in four major programmatic areas 1 wildlife
conservation and human-wildlife conflict prevention, 2 youth environmental
education and adult capacity building & training, 3 natural resource
conservation and rangeland management, and 4 environmentally-sustainable
conservation enterprise and development.

Position Description

TPW is looking for a passionate, energetic and highly experienced individual
to work in close cooperation with TPW program teams, local government
authorities, the World Wildlife Fund WWF, and partner communities. The
advertised position will support the coordination of all project activities in
the Lake Natron area.

The applicant should have proven experience in the coordination of
conservation initiatives, using both traditional and innovative methodologies.
The successful candidate will also have impressive communication and
interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
with diverse stakeholders. This position will be stationed in Longido and at
the Noloholo Environmental Center in Simanjiro, so she/he should be willing to
work in remote areas for the majority of the time. We anticipate the position
will require equal amounts of time for program and team coordination, program
administration, oversight, community and local government communication,
meetings, and reporting.


Key Responsibilities

-->Responsible for planning and coordinating all project activities, working with TPW staff, WWF and a number of external experts and partners. This will include a multi-stakeholder engagement process, the collection and review of essential baseline data, the co-creation of appropriate implementation approaches, and the establishment of related monitoring system
-->Coordinate and aid in the co-implementation of programmatic activities such as Human-Wildlife-Conflict HWC mitigation, participatory land use planning, sustainable rangeland management, ecofriendly business development, community-based natural resource management, and wildlife and habitat conservation.
-->Ensure the strong participation and inclusion of women and youth, as well as people with disabilities in all project activities.
-->Identify and develop excellent working relationships with important stakeholders such as community leaders and community-based organizations, women’s group representatives, local user groups, Government authorities, research institutions and other projects in the region.
-->Represent TPW at meetings/workshops with relevant authorities and ensure effective coordination, collaboration, and knowledge sharing with Government and other stakeholders.
-->Manage day-to-day operations of the project, which include effective administration and tracking of project finances, project monitoring and evaluation, timely reporting to TPW and WWF, and effective coordination and cooperation between project partners.
-->Work with TPW and WWF staff to develop/adjust work plans and budgets.
-->Cooperate with Senior Management Team staff at TPW on relevant topics to ensure alignment with TPW processes and approaches.
-->Submit regular progress and technical reports to the Chief Program Officer and ensure all team members are kept up to date with relevant project information.
-->Undertake other duties as appropriate and as may be directed by the Chief Program Officer.
-->Act as a public emissary of TPW’s programs and the organizations goals and mission.


Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a Master’s or equivalent degree in
community development, business, or enterprise development. We are looking for
an individual with the ability to independently manage and coordinate all
project activities. This requires exceptional leadership and communication
skills and an ability to produce well written reports in English without
assistance.

Required

-->Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in one of the above fields
-->At least 3 years professional experience in relevant sectors, in particular with regard to community-based natural resource management preferably in pastoral communities.
-->At least 2 years of experience of working on complex programs with multiple and diverse implementation partners and stakeholders with cross-cutting themes and multiple objectives.
-->In-depth knowledge of Program Management and Development procedures.
-->Excellent strategic thinking and planning skills.
-->Excellent skills with Microsoft Office.
-->Strong interpersonal skills, including training and capacity building, and respect for other cultures.
-->Demonstrated ability to drive multi-stakeholder engagement processes including stakeholder workshops, and to build capacity of multiple stakeholders to engage in the project.
-->Passionate concern for wildlife, local communities, and TPW’s mission
-->Willingness to live and work in remote field settings
-->Excellent spoken and written English skills; proficiency in the Maa language is preferred

Reports to TPW Chief Program Officer
Salary & Benefits Full-time position based on experience and
qualifications; salary commensurate with experience. Contract is grant
dependent, currently expiring in June 2024.
