MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation (MS TCDC), located in Usa River near Arusha, was established in 1967 to prepare Danish volunteers to work in East and Southern Africa. Today it trains over 5,000 people annually from all over the world in leadership & governance courses, standard courses, development management courses, Kiswahili language and cultural orientation. In May 2017, a consultation workshop on the East Africa Humanitarian Learning Space was conducted at MS TCDC and follow-up by a design workshop where humanitarian-learning framework was developed. In this design workshop, humanitarian learning was identified as one of the gaps that hinder learning and knowledge management in the region. Therefore stakeholder aimed at consulting on the formation of East African humanitarian learning space hence strengthening the learning and networking among humanitarian partners which will ultimately improve humanitarian actions in the region, specifically Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. In order to support this mission, we are looking for three (3) interns (1 Ugandan, 1 Kenyan and 1 Tanzanian) who are innovative, proactive, responsible, vibrant and skilled. The interns will contribute to the long term objective of exposing and introducing young professionals to the humanitarian sector and building their capacity to work in the sector as they advance their livelihoods.
**The interns are expected to be working together on the specific areas below and others;
1)Technical and Content Development, 2)Communication and Social Media and 3)Partnerships and Engagement.
Specific Tasks for this assignment:
a) Collect, review and summarise local case studies, commitment of practice and make such available on the regional humanitarian learning space.
b) Support the ongoing mapping, analysis of humanitarian learning products and correspondence with providers and users of the humanitarian learning products with a few to improve learning products and increase update of the same.
c) Analyze the approaches to engage humanitarian providers to sale learning resources and advise users on available learning products.
d) Analyze the human resources available for the humanitarian sector in the region and country wise.
e) Support the validation of the curriculum and pilot course on Humanitarian Leadership and Volunteering in the region and across the countries.
f) Support the Coordination of the workshop for Capacity building of TCDC Trainers in the Humanitarian Leadership ToTs.
g) Structure a fund raising strategy for regional humanitarian learning work.
h) Develop a robust monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) plans to strengthen the learning and networking among humanitarian partners and actions in the region.
Intern Profile: A candidate must possess a primary qualification in Social Science, Political Science, International/Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communication, Law or any other relevant field.
Attributes and key skills: High level of cross-cultural skills, excellent written and oral communication skills in English, Kiswahili and French (Basic).
Terms and conditions:
The internship positions will be based at the MS TCDC training centre in Usa River, Arusha. The internship positions are offered under MS TCDC’s internship policy with a fixed term contract of two (2) months with the possibility of extension depending on the future programmatic focus and needs of MS TCDC.
