Environmental Officer
Acacia Mining seeks to employ an Environmental Officer based at North Mara Mine. This role reports to the Environmental Section Leader and the role holder will be accountable to support a number of Environmental Management System (EMS) tasks and undertake various Environmental Monitoring activities, including:
• Compliance monitoring activities in support of the site Environmental Management Plan;
• Maintaining EMS databases;
• Optimising waste management and segregation practices;
• Environmental chemical analysis; and
• Review of environmental awareness training needs across the site.
This is a permanent role, with the work roster being six weeks on and three weeks off.
Core Accountabilities
• Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Undertake compliance monitoring programs as required.
• Conduct site inspections in support of EMS objectives.
• Coordinate and supervise waste segregation and integrated waste management across the site.
• Provide environmental advice to all departments across the mine site as required.
• Provide environmental awareness training to the site workforce.
• Ensure the laboratory records/ database is kept updated for Water quality and other environmental monitoring information.
• Ensure proper use of laboratory equipment and other related tools.
• Uploading of incident records into RIMS or other database format as required.
• Participate in relevant discussions in seeking solutions to environmental problems with the public and government organizations.
• Maintain registers and SOP’s as required under EMS.
• Assist with compiling regular reports for monthly, quarterly and annual / regulatory reporting needs.
• Conduct inspections with EMS representatives in operational areas.
Role Requirements
Qualification Requirements:
• Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering or similar.
• Valid Tanzania Driving license.
Experience Requirements:
• 2-4 years’ experience in mine site environmental management.
Skills / Knowledge Requirements:
• Detailed knowledge and exposure to safety and environmental management systems.
• Advanced computer skills in MS Office
• Clear and effective communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Be able to write detailed reports with analytical interpretation.
• High level of interpersonal skills.
• Significant experience in operating mines and ISO 14001 Standards.
• Excellent planning, organization skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and the self-discipline to achieve tasks on time with minimal supervision.
