|
Restless Development:
Restless
Development Tanzania (www.restlessdevelopment.org) is the leading youth-led
development agency. Our mission is to
place young people at the forefront of change and development. We have
been working in Tanzania since 1993 and have established an impressive track
record in delivering grassroots impact through youth led development
programmes aligned to the Government of Tanzania’s poverty reduction plans
and Millennium Development Goals now Sustainable Development Goals. Our area
of focus is in Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Livelihoods
& Employment, Civic Participation and global issues such as climate
change and emergency response.
ICS:
We are
looking for a talented and passionate young people to volunteer in
International Citizen Service (ICS) project. ICS is the leading global volunteering programme for young people who
want to do voluntary development work in some of the under-served communities
around the world. ICS brings together young people from different countries
to fight poverty. Young volunteers from the Tanzania thus will be working
alongside volunteers from UK. This role will contribute to growing the
impact, effectiveness and credibility of delivering pre professional skills
development to students at Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL), vocational
training institutions and Secondary Schools while at the same time creating a
global network between young people from Tanzania with their counterparts
from the UK. You will be responsible in delivery of the project, be engaged
and focused throughout the cycle of the project.
You will be a dynamic and a passionate
individual, who is able to work in a cross cultural setting, is practical,
solution-focussed and committed to delivering high standard programmes.

Role Purpose
|
The dual
objective of being an ICS volunteer with Restless Development is to actively
contribute to the delivery of an ICS project, while also focussing on your
own personal and professional development.
|
|
|
Core Responsibilities
|
Pre-placement
Preparation:
·
Attend pre
placement training
·
Carefully read
the Volunteer Handbook and carry out all necessary tasks listed
·
Initial research
into Country Programme to further prepare for placement phase
·
Commit to
Restless Development code of conduct for the duration of the placement
Programme
Planning and Facilitation:
·
Along with team
leaders and other general volunteers, participate in the preparation of team
plans to be filled in team planning tool
·
Actively
participate in weekly and monthly plans for team activities
·
Prepare session
plans to be delivered in the Higher Learning Institutions
·
Ensuring positive
communication and partnership with Higher Learning Institutions
·
Participate in
preparation and running the careers fair event
Monitoring
and Evaluation:
·
Document your
activities using the tools provided
·
Full
participation in preparing team planning tool
·
Collate evidence
of impact from young people in communities
·
Input into the
write up of a team debrief, with input from other volunteer team including
identifying gaps, lessons learnt and recommendations
Action at
Home:
·
Attend a debrief
and planning for Action at Home
·
Complete Action
at Home, no later than 6 months after placement
·
Complete the
Action at Home evaluation form and return to Restless Development staff

Personal Specification

Must be between
18 and 25 years old
·
A passion for the
role of young people in international development
·
A belief in the
values of Restless Development
·
A full commitment
to the three stages of ICS (pre-placement preparation, placement and Action
at Home)
·
Self-motivated
with the ability to work flexibly and on own initiative
·
Sensitive to the
needs of others and committed to learning from an ICS placement

Essential Skills & Experience
|
·
Strong
communication and interpersonal skills
·
Ability to plan
logically, managing a varied workload and working environment
·
Fluent in written
and spoken English and Swahili
|
Desirable Skills &
Experience
|
·
A basic
understanding of development issues, e.g. poverty, advocacy, sexual health
·
Experience of
working in a cross-cultural environment
·
Experience of
working/volunteering in Tanzania
