The Busara Center for Behavioral Economics seeks a qualified candidate for the role of Field Officer for the project titled “Mapping Mobile Money Behaviors in Tanzania”. The Field Officer will be responsible mainly for data collection.
About Busara:
The Busara Center for Behavioral Economics is an advisory and research organization focused on evaluation and implementation of behavioral interventions in understudied countries and populations. Busara's mission is to work with researchers and organizations to advance and apply behavioral science in pursuit of poverty alleviation. This involves the application of research and rigorous methods to enable partners to improve program design, evaluate existing programs, and optimize internal processes. To this end, Busara has worked with a variety of organizations in an advisory capacity to apply behavioral insights, build analytical models, and develop new products. In addition, in its research center capacity, Busara operates a Nairobi-based lab capable of implementing advanced experiments in psychology, behavioral economics and other academic disciplines.
About the Project:
The Project titled: “Mapping Mobile Money Behaviors in Tanzania”, seeks to explore the following thematic areas related to mobile money and digital financial services:
• Consumer perceptions and attitudes, particularly around responsible usage and financial planning
• Social and cultural barriers to activation, engagement, and endorsement
• Network effects and behavioral patterns within group settings
• Consumer usage of merchant payment services
• Merchant adoption and usage of merchant payment services for their business activities
Description of Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
• Administer surveys appropriately
• Facilitate focus group discussions and individual interviews with respondents
• Transcription of notes from field data when necessary
• Translation between Kiswahili and English
• Providing daily reports to supervisor
• Ability to build rapport with respondents
• Coordinating with team members on field activities
Key Requirements:
Required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in Kiswahili (must), and English
- Basic computer knowledge and skills (mandatory)
- Excellent communication, individual and group-based exercise facilitation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to recognize when questions are difficult or unclear to subjects
- Excellent note taking ability during interviews
- Experience in conducting qualitative research
Desired
- Bachelors’ degree or college diploma in social sciences, economic, development studies and/or business administration
- Past experience in qualitative data collection and/or counseling -show proof of this in application
- Experience using computer assisted interviewing or ODK is a plus
- Have the following qualities: are diligent and organized, have the ability to motivate and counsel others, have a positive attitude, are active and respectful listeners, have strong interpersonal skills, and have passion for community-based social work
