POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Administrative and Program Assistant at Winrock International

LOCATION:   Tabora, Tanzania 
REPORTS TO:  Program Director  

 Achieving Reduction of Child Labor in Support of Education (ARISE II) is a program to combat child labor in tobacco-growing communities through education and awareness, economic empowerment, and the promotion of a regulatory environment conducive to child labor prevention. The program is funded by Japan Tobacco International (JTI) and jointly implemented by Winrock International (WI) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). Winrock International, is recruiting for an Administrative and Program Assistant to be based in Tabora, Tanzania. 



Purpose of the position:  The Administrative and Program Assistant must be capable of providing support on administrative tasks and programmatic activities in targeted program communities as required. The Assistant will provide administrative, program and/or technical operations support. He/she will prepare and maintain a variety of detailed programmatic records, reports, and files while assisting staff with specific activities and discrete projects. The Assistant provides information, responds to inquiries, and performs related work as assigned/required. 

Duties and responsibilities include: Administrative Tasks  
Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Support general office administrative tasks as assigned; 
  • Receive visitors and attend incoming and outgoing phone calls;
  •  Assist in photocopying and filing of finance and program-related documentation; 
  • Handle petty cash and procurement protocols as necessary; 
  • Other tasks, as assigned.  

Programmatic tasks Visit the communities as assigned to assist with the following activities:  

  • Awareness raising and sensitization activities in the communities on the elimination of child labor; 
  • Community-led monitoring of child labor;
  •  Data collection; 
  • Vocational programs/training/activities for youth;
  •  Afterschool programming for primary school pupils;
  • Support for/coordination of Women’s Agribusiness Groups and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs);
  • Compiling of reports on programmatic activities and documenting project impacts, achievements, and success stories.

Required qualifications

  • A minimum of a Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Public Administration and/or Community Development/Economics of Development; 
  •  At least 2 years’ experience in office management, preferably in development work; 
  •  Insight into rural communities in the Tabora Region and community development in general; 
  •  Highly committed and motivated; 
  • Excellent people and partnership skills, historically demonstrated team work; 
  •  Written and spoken proficiency in English and Swahili; knowledge of relevant regional local language(s) a plus; 
  • Committed to upholding the highest ethical standards.
