JOB OFFER: COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

SHIPO is a Tanzanian NGO based in Njombe that operates in all mainland Tanzanian territory, but especially in the Southern Highlands. SHIPO is currently looking for a communications and public relations officer to supervise the external communications of the organization with current and potential partners and beneficiaries.

 The Communications and Public Relations officers will be in charge of fulfilling the following duties:




  • Creating and supervising different SMS sensitization campaigns and surveys using a massive mobile messaging platform (Telerivet). The communications officer will design SMS messages and questions for the campaign and will manage the responses and the queries of the target audience through the system. The officer will collaborate with experts in the specific topics campaigns to ensure the quality and the accuracy of the key messages. Some of the planned campaign topics for 2017 are in HIV, children rights and gender.
  • Compiling and editing all kinds of reports, including SHIPO annual report.
  • Writing and edit official messages to authorities, beneficiaries and current or potential partners and donors.
  • Supervise the contents of SHIPO’s website and manage SHIPO’s profile in Visible Impact online platform and in any approvedsocial networks. The officer will be in charge of posting news, interviews, links, videos, pictures and other updates in a weekly basis. In order to do this, the communication officer will be also responsible for writing articles and reports, conducting interviews with authorities, partners and beneficiaries and to publish in different communication and outreach platforms.
  • Design all kinds of communication, sensitization and promotional materials such as brochures, posters, comic stories, newsletters, etc. for the organization, editing lay outs and contents.
  • Designing and writing and updated communication and outreach strategy for SHIPO.
  • Translate internal and external documents between English and Kiswahili.
  • Any other related duties required by SHIPO
In order to fill this position SHIPO is looking for a candidate who possesses:
  • A degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations and Publicity, Linguistics (specialities in English and Kiswahili) or other related degrees.
  • Three years of experience working in the same or related field is preferred.
Also, the right candidate must demonstrate:
  • Excellent command in English and Kiswahili and solid translation skills between both languages.
  • Outstanding writing skills with experience writing and editing articles, reports, interviews, letters, etc.
  • Excellent command of social media and experience managing social media profiles.
  • Experience in publicity or social campaigning.
  • Knowledgeable of the new cybercrime law.
  • Preferably knowledge and experience in graphic design.
  • Preferably knowledge and experience in photo and video shooting and edition.

SHIPO offers:
  • An 8 months contract starting on February 2017 and ending up in September 2017 with a probation period of 3 months.
  • The contract may be extended beyond September 2017 depending on performance and availability of funds.
