The Management and Development for Health (MDH),

in collaboration with The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, will undertake a research project titled “Improving HIV Prevalence Estimation through Novel Methodology” This study aims to estimate the prevalence of HIV
amongst women at high risk of acquisition, namely women working as barmaids or as sex workers in bars in Dar es Salaam. The study will first conduct a pilot in six bars, and based on the results of this pilot it will expand to interview and test sufficient women to have power to validate the interviewer method. 
This Research Project wants to recruit a very capable person to fill the following position:

Job summary
The HPM2/Validation of interviewers study is going to be implemented in several bars in Kinondoni district. The ten (10) research assistants will play an essential role in data collection for the study while working closely with the study coordinator at MDH

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. To work closely with the study coordinator for successful implementation of the project.
  2. To oversee and ensure smooth interview of the clients.
  3.  Including daily updates on the interview status
  4. With a support of the study coordinator, to resolve any recruitment challenges
  5. To adhere to standard operating procedures as described in the interview manual.
  6. To observe research ethics, regulations and bureaucracy at the respective study site.
  7. To report immediately any challenges encountered as they conduct the interviews
  8. To work closely with the study coordinator to undertake routine data cleaning
  9. To perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and other superiors at MDH.


Education and professional qualifications:
  • Experience in conducting population health surveys.
  • An ability to communicate fluently in both English and Kiswahili.
  • A minimum of form six or ordinary diploma, a bachelor’s degree in health and social sciences will be an added advantage.
  • Worked as a research assistant in health research projects previously.
  • Able to work independently and in multidisciplinary team.
  • Committed to work and adherence to work regulations.
  • Can maintain confidentiality in all aspects.
