Role overview
VSO Tanzania is implementing the Elimu Fursa project in Lindi. The project will focuse on students in
12 secondary schools within the Lindi region. The main project goals are to implement career development and enterprise education programs, strengthen market relevant skills of students by training school heads and teachers and deliver a competency framework for employability skills with industry support.
The project is a timely investment in the employability of Tanzanian youth.
Every year 1 million young people enter the labor market while there are not enough employment opportunities.
The Career guidance program will engage education stakeholders including VETA and the private sector: in supporting 40 students per year to develop awareness of job opportunities in the private and government sector, career pathways (to VETA/University) and increasing practical experience in (soft) skills and work based competencies in a team setting.
The program will be for 2 months at a time and will focus on engaging form 3 students.
The program will set weekly team tasks and the team’s performance in these tasks will be evaluated by industry specialists and local educationalists. All the groups will get a sub mentor: form 6 student.
This program will contribute to help kids become interested in staying in school and learning English and get other qualifications and skills.
Skills, qualifications and experience
• Experience (at least one year) as a career guidance coach or teacher
• Integrity and professionalism
• Well-organized and committed
• Creative and energetic
• Ability to operate within a range of student personalities and backgrounds
• Knowledge of computers
• Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines partnered with a willingness to follow the school’s policies and procedures
• Communicability and interpersonal skills
