Agriculture Specialist

RTI is currently seeking qualified Agribusiness Specialist candidates with experience in USAID-funded agricultural development and youth entrepreneurship programs in the Sub-Saharan Africa region for an upcoming opportunity in Tanzania. This position requires a background in agricultural production, value chain development and related areas of value-added small and medium enterprise development, and business management. Preferred candidates will have specific experience in youth-focused programming, entrepreneurship, and workforce development.

The Agribusiness Specialist will have significant field experience designing, managing, and/or implementing a program that catalyses youth entrepreneurship along key agricultural value chains. S/he will be responsible for agriculture activities of the program and will advise on emerging successes across the agricultural value chain.

Primary Responsibilities
Lead programmatic strategies and activities for agriculture-related entrepreneurship development. This includes refining technical approaches and strategies as well as developing new tools.
Effectively represent RTI’s approaches to these issues, and continuously seek feedback from USAID Tanzania, partners, and other key stakeholders.
Lead Tanzanian-based local partners and direct project staff to conduct outreach and agribusiness/entrepreneurship training for youth beneficiaries.
Develop key agriculture sector partnerships and collaborations with private sector agribusinesses
Liaise with technical team to develop partnerships between private sector and key technical and vocational training institutes
Work with others in the technical team to develop curricula and training modules, as needed.
Author descriptive, analytical, and methodological reports.
Mentor and supervise core staff.
Master’s-level degree or MBA, with focus on agribusiness or business relevant to agricultural development, with 6 years of experience (or Bachelor’s and 10 years).
Experience working with agribusinesses to assess their capacity and build the strength of staff (private or public sector experience);
Experience working with training institutions, and understanding their capacity to provide support and train beneficiaries (farmers, agri-businessmen, etc.);
Demonstrated understanding of the leading agribusiness sectors in Tanzania;
Demonstrated understanding of value chain development and market systems;
Experience with donor-funded projects; USAID preferred.
Language Ability: Oral and written fluency in English. Kiswahili fluency preferred.
