MITU is inviting applications from motivated and suitably qualified research nurses to work on the EMPOWER study.Contracts are for one year and a competitive remuneration package will be offered. The overall aim of the study is to assess the feasibility,
acceptability and safety of offering oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as part of a combination prevention package that addresses gender-based violence, stigma and HIV in adolescent girls and young women, aged 16-24 years, at substantial risk for HIV infection in South Africa and Tanzania. MITU is coordinating the study in Tanzaniaand will recruit adolescent girls and young women working in bars, restaurants and other recreational facilities in Mwanza city to take part in the study.
Main Duties
· To participate in screening potential study participants for eligibility
· To assist with collection of biological samples, including blood samples and vaginal swabs required as part of
screening and ongoing monitoring of participants

· To conduct HIV counselling and testing incorporating screening for violence and stigma among study
participants
· To participate in HIV risk reduction counselling
· To participate in referral of study participants to appropriate medical, social or legal care if needed
· To participate in contraception assessments, associated counselling and provision of supplies as appropriate
· To conduct face-to-face interviews and physical examinations to assess health status
· To participate in recording clinical data in the clinical case report forms
· To conduct face-to-face interviews, at baseline and at quarterly clinic visits, to collect information on HIV riskperception, sexual behaviour, relationship dynamics, current health status etc
· To undertake other tasks as may reasonably be expected for the study
Essential criteria for selection
· Registered nurse
· Trained in HIV counselling and testing
· Experience in clinical research - ideally clinical trials
· Familiar with the principles of Good Clinical Practice and Good Participatory Practice.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills in Kiswahili and English.
· Demonstrates excellent attention to details.
· Demonstrates commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
