East Africa Media Relations Associate

One Acre Fund is seeking an East Africa media relations associate to
coordinate public and media relations across all countries of operation.
Working closely with the department's global communication lead,
in-country communications officers, and our East Africa People
Operations, Government Relations, and Field Operations teams, the media
relations associate will help guide in-country public relations
strategies, field and respond to media inquiries, provide journalists
with information about One Acre Fund's operations, maintain
relationships with priority outlets, and help host visiting media in the
field in various countries. The associate will also support daily media
and social media monitoring and support ongoing risk assessments and
rapid response communications. The ideal candidate has demonstrated
experience and education in public relations and/or journalism and
possesses a working knowledge of media in East Africa. Travel in East
Africa required 3-4 times a year. Responsibilities include:
Media relations in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Malawi
Fielding, routing, and responding to media inquiries
Building and maintaining media relationships
Working with East African leadership teams on local and regional outreach plans
Supporting rapid response communications planning and execution
close relations with the East Africa People Operations, Government
Relations, and Field Operations teams and helping to identify issues
before they arise
Preparing leadership and other staff for interviews and media visits
Hosting visiting media in the field as needed
Monitoring daily news and social media for relevant news
Maintaining a media database of contacts and interactions

We are seeking 1 exceptional professional(s) with at least 2 year(s) of
work experience and a demonstrated passion for international
development. Candidates who fit the following criteria are strongly
encouraged to apply:
2 years of on-the-job experience in public relations or journalism in East Africa
Journalism, PR or related communications Bachelor's degree
Solid understanding and familiarity with major East African media outlets and writers
Astute relationship manager
work experiences. Examples include a demanding professional work
experience, or successful entrepreneurial experience (e.g. leading a
conference, starting a business).
Leadership experience at work, or outside of work
Top-performing academic background (include GPA on your resume)

Willingness to be on call after-hours and on weekends
Willingness to travel internationally on short notice
Language: English required; Swahili fluency preferred
