UNHCR is leading the humanitarian response in refugee crisis globally. Over the last few years we have witnessed a dramatic increase in populations of concern. To continuously respond to the demand of millions of people in need, we are looking for new talent, willing to serve mainly in deep field and hardship locations.
UNHCR seeks applications to a range of generic functional profiles to beef up its pool of “ready-to-hire” candidates. Shortlisted, cleared candidates will be kept in the pool for one year. They may be considered for upcoming vacancies, when staffing needs arise.
Being part of the pool does not guarantee shortlisted candidates a job.
Generic functional profiles
Applicants are invited to apply to generic functional profiles. The location of duty will be determined by UNHCR. The positions will be at the P-2, P-3 and P-4 level respectively (to be determined by UNHCR).

Eligibility
As the positions may be at the P2, P3 or P4 levels the eligibility requirements vary and are explained in detail in the actual profiles. However, the essential minimum requirements for applicants to the profiles are as follows:
  • University degree, at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution;
  • Relevant working experience in the respective functional area;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and at least one other UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) with proficiency at the B2 level or above under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Additional languages are an asset;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural team;
  • Ability to be deployed within four to six weeks of being offered a position with UNHCR;
  • Willingness to serve in conflict zones and deep field locations;
  • Willingness to serve in different countries.
The majority of positions filled through the generic functional profiles are expected to be in non-family or hardship locations.
Offer of employment
External applicants recruited to a position through the generic functional profiles will be offered an initial temporary appointment, usually for six months, or a one-year fixed term contract, with no expectation of renewal.
Appointment will be subjected to satisfactory medical examination; verification of references; and certification of valid diplomas.
