Multimedia Broadcast Journalist, Dira TV

BBC Africa is a multimedia operation with an extremely varied output focusing on African and Global audiences. This position focuses on African TV Broadcasts in Kiswahili, it is a daily news and current affairs programme for our Kiswahili speaking audiences in East Africa.

Role Responsibility

This role requires a strong understanding of the constraints of generating original TV material from Africa and preferably proven experience in delivering powerful stories for TV. You will be expected to research, present, write, edit and adapt stories or programme material. Finding contributors, interviewees and other sources of material will be a large part of your role. You’ll be writing and creating original material for all Multimedia output. You’ll also be performing live on audio or video with or without a script. You will be responsible for thinking through and around editorial problems. The position will expect you to conduct interviews either in the studio or on location. You’ll be liaising closely with other team members, along with reporters and stringers.

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll have complete comprehension of written and spoken English, coupled with the ability to communicate effectively. You will need a full command and up to date knowledge of Kiswahili (first or equivalent language).
This role requires you to have an excellent broadcasting voice, with strong presentation skills and be able to perform at the microphone with flair. Preferably you will bring a track record of producing stories and programmes for TV. You’ll have substantial, recent and relevant full-time experience as a journalist. You’ll be able to write scripts for a variety of audiences and forms of media. This position requires you to have a wide current knowledge of Eastern Africa. You will be experienced with reporting, in the field, on African political, economic, sport and social issues. You’ll be able to demonstrate a good range of contacts for interview purposes
The salary will be up to £40,000pa (including all allowances).
