INTRODUCTION
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. Required Criteria
Minimum Educational Qualification
University Diploma in Geographical Information System or Geomatic
Experience:
Required – At least one to two years in specialist area. Experience managing data collection, entry and maintenance.
Experience in managing or developing databases. Strong practical experience in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Desirable – Good knowledge of local administration and Experience with MSF or other NGO
Languages:
English (fluent, oral & written), Swahili required, French will be an asset

Main Responsibilities
  • Organize the mission’s geographical information system and produce in real time a spatial analysis of the situation in the field. Work in close collaboration with the epidemiologist and data processing officer in charge of collecting and encoding all medical data. Provide support to all medico-operational activities, such as logistics, outreach, WHS, security, project and mission leadership, communication and reporting, health promotion, etc.
  • Main tasks and duties include: Direct liaison with staff to identify GIS needs and develop appropriate GIS products.  Manage response and prioritization of requests for map products and services. Manage the development, quality control and reproduction of products in appropriate formats. Identify, gather and incorporate external datasets into the MSF repository. Maintain and expand the data repository and related metadata; Work with data to create themes and layers for use in GIS; Conduct analysis and relate separate datasets to create analytical products. Manage training and skills development support to staff with simple mapping, Google Earth, use of GPS.
  • In charge of briefings to new arrivals (expats and national staff) on use of GIS tools in MSF project.
  • Collects various security data from Field Coordinators and Log Coordinator, analyses and compiles them in order to set up and implement an interactive map which contains all reported security incidents.
